A reminder that there are now 2 playing modes in Happy Pet Story: Child-Friendly and Online Mode. I still see players saying they lost all their friends or couldn’t visit others - You probably went into Child-Friendly mode, where there is zero interaction with others.

How to change to Online Mode?
If you wanna enjoy the original gameplay and your age is appropriate, go to Parental Controls and answer the question to unlock Online Mode.

4.1 💌You can now see uncollected items in the Catalogue, but you still need to purchase from shop to unlock them.

4.2 🎎Costume tab will show a preview of your character wearing the costume.

4.3 Some NPC costumes sets previously in incorrect sets are also fixed.

4.4 Similar designs previously in Simple set have been expanded out into other sets.

4.5 🎁 Items ordered via catalogue will arrive immediately. Catalogue is also now unlocked when user starts the game (previously, you must reach lv5).

5. UI:

5.1 Menu bar has been updated to avoid problems with notch devices.

5.2 🏠 Now you can find your home from town easily with new “Go home” button.

6. Others:

6.1 Some minor deco and costume bugs have been fixed. If you see more, please report to us.

6.2 Some item names have been updated to be more Child-Friendly

💟You can play the game in "Child-Friendly Mode" and "Online Mode" 💟

👪 If you are under 13 (COPPA rule) or 18 (GDPR rule), close age check and play the game in Child-Friendly mode. If you are over the stipulated ages, finish the age check correctly to play in Online mode.

1. Child-Friendly Mode: No online interaction (including discovering, visiting, following, or being visited by other players, camera photo sharing, leaderboard, social rewards), ID is hidden, secure and restore is disabled, some age-related deco and costumes are hidden, notifications from the game are blocked

2. Online Mode: Same gameplay as before

In the beginning, Happy Pet Story was built for family and friends of all ages to enjoy. Now, we’ve done our best to keep Happy Pet Story a safe environment for children to play and explore, while also retaining and enhancing the original gameplay for our beloved players since 2015.

Building a school isn’t just about studying! Be sure to build amenities like dorms, restrooms, shops, gyms so that students can recuperate their energy. Also, beautify your school with tiles, decos, statues, gardens to increase your scenery points. Not only that, some building combinations will allow classes and facilities to earn more. For example, placing a Reading Room beside a Magic Circle class increases both their appeal and usage fee.

Play Match-3 puzzle games!
In Magic School Story, players can also earn resources from playing challenging match-3 puzzle games! Simply match three or more tiles with the same color to clear them, and complete the objectives for each stage to earn resources such as Coins, Gems, Magic Stars and Elemental Orbs. With hundreds of puzzle stages introducing fresh new elements of gameplay at every turn, players will be left wanting for more at the end of the day. 

Elemental Orbs are key resources used for class upgrades, and upgrading classes allow students to advance their learning, refreshes its’ looks, and also allows you to earn more coins.

​Players also can collect special Magic Stars that allows them to cast various types of magic on their school. “Coin Frenzy” gives you lots of coins in a short time, “Study Mode” gives students more XP, and “Time Travel” fast forwards the game for a short while.

Q: Give the readers a short introduction about yourself and your company. What is your role? What is your company about? What is your “origin” story?

Happy Labs games are distributed on Google Play and App Store to countries all over the world. To date, we have launched 15 games with a combined download volume of over 55 million. I (Jeffrey Chee) lead the company in terms of vision and direction for our games.

Q: How does your company endure as a game studio in South-east Asia? What challenges did your company face when it first started?

Being from a gamer background, it was difficult to deliver games that are easy to pick up for casual players. We found our niche by pulling inspiration from playing more casual games, listening actively to customers and also from our past experiences on making simulation games in our previous jobs at Nubee.

Q: What are some of the common challenges your company face when developing or releasing a project? How are resources allocated or distributed?

It takes a lot of time to polish something to the best of our satisfaction, but sometimes we have to make a compromise between perfecting something, adding more features, or even cutting some specs that we think is fun. It’s a delicate balance that we have to constantly measure ourselves against.

Q: How does your company manage funding and recruitment?

We’re entirely bootstrapped and recruit from word of mouth.

Q: How does your company conduct user testing?

We use Google Play’s Beta Release and Early Access program to easily reach out to relevant users who are interested in our genre of games (no we’re not paid to say that).

Q: How does your company handle marketing for your brand and your products?

A large part of our users come in organically. Apart from disbursing game news from our website, we also actively use social media channels to reach out to our audiences. From time to time, we run UA (user acquisition) campaigns on channels like Facebook and Google Adwords.

Q: What is your company’s work environment like? Any quirks or interesting stories you would like to share?

Contrary to our ‘happy’ brand, the Happy Labs office is utilitarian and simple with a bunch of hard-working people in their thirties chugging out work round the clock.

Q: What are your views on the local game industry?

We think that the industry has come a long way since the time we started in 2013, but the mobile market we’re in now is becoming saturated and mobile game developers must now come up with quality work that can beat other games on an international level to really succeed.

Q: Do you have any tips for aspiring entrepreneurs who want to enter the local game industry?

In the last 2 months, we have upgraded all games to a newer and more reliable server.

For Happy Pet Story, Happy Mall Story, and Hotel Story
Players will get new numerical IDs and will will need to re-follow your friends.

For Restaurant Paradise
Your Game ID got changed to numerical IDs but your friends retained.

What does this mean for you, our players? 
The most important thing to do now is Secure Your Game! Players now have the option to secure their game using Facebook or Email address.

Must-do before you change device
Before you change your device, remember to press "save server data" in Settings.
This will allow you to save your game progress when you change devices.

Game got reverted to level 1?
If you secure your game and your game reverts to level 1, simply reinstall your game and re-login again to recover your account.


*Important* For Players in Happy Pet Story and Restaurant Paradise
For Happy Pet Story and Restaurant Paradise players who've previously secured with Login ID and Password or Facebook, please re-secure again.

How do I know whether my game is in the new server?
For your information, the games in the following versions are in the new server:

• Happy Pet Story HPS: V2.0
• Happy Mall Story HMS: V2.0
• Hotel Story HS: V2.0
• Restaurant Paradise RP: V1.9

How do I know whether my game is secured successfully?
Check your Secure status in Settings of each game. If your game is secured, you will see a confirmation there.

What to do if my old game is still in the old server and I can't find it in the new server?
This guide is for Happy Mall Story, Hotel Story and Happy Pet Story only.

If you've recently installed your game after a long hiatus away from the game, and your old ID is in the old Server (any game version that's earlier than the versions stated above), here is the temporary recovery flow.

Temporary recovery flow:
Using an Android phone, please follow the procedures below:

1. If you are on V2.0, uninstall the current game (secure it first if you want to save the data)
2. Reinstall V1.X from here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1LEfCpKsZW7QcQTUSA2faSJdLRg6lbt_H?usp=sharing
3. HPS and RP: Please log in with your username and password. If you don’t remember your password, go to step 4. If you remember your password, go to step 5.
4. HS and HMS: Please make a new account and give us the new ID, after which we will transfer your old game to the new ID.
5. Once you've recovered your new game, please update directly to V2.0 without uninstalling.
6. You'll get new ID and you need to re-add followers.

What if I'm playing on iPhone?
If you want to play the game using iPhone,

1. Please do the Temporary Recovery Flow (steps 1-6)
2. Secure your game on the Android device
3. Log in with the same credentials on iPhone

You have to use Android to recover because iOS do not allow players to download old versions of a game.

I don't want to upgrade my game. I don't want to lose my friends or my saved game.

Please note that the old server will be closed in a few months time and players are encouraged to update to the latest version to preserve your data.

When the old server closes, all old player data will be wiped!

So it's very very very important to update your game!
